Nina Rees Nina Rees, Senior Vice President of Strategic Initiatives at Knowledge Universe, is responsible for advancing the company's goals of providing the highest-quality, early-childhood education and after-school tutoring, while finding innovative ways to improve primary and secondary educational outcomes. Before joining Knowledge Universe, Rees worked for nearly 15 years in Washington, D.C., most recently as the Assistant Deputy Secretary for Innovation and Improvement at the United States Department of Education, overseeing the administration of 28 grant programs supporting 1,300 projects nationwide and coordinating the implementation of several provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Prior to joining the Education Department, Rees served as a domestic-policy advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney, involved in the effort to enact No Child Left Behind. She also served as the Senior Education Analyst at the Heritage Foundation where she authored more than two dozen policy briefs and served as the foundation's chief spokesperson on education. Rees has appeared on various news outlets, including CNN, C-Span and PBS's NewsHour, and her articles and opinions have appeared in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and the Washington Post.

Additionally, Rees spent two years on the staff of Rep. Porter Goss, R-Florida, while earning her master's degree in International Transactions from George Mason University. She serves on the boards of the Washington Scholarship Fund in the District of Columbia and the Greater Educational Opportunities Foundation in Indianapolis. As an undergraduate at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, Rees majored in Psychology. She is fluent in French and Farsi.
