CCLC® Named Best Company for Hourly Workers by Working Mother Magazine
Portland, OR (April 13, 2010)— Part of a pioneering group of honorees, CCLC® (www.cclc.com) has been named to the first-ever Working Mother Best Companies for Hourly Workers. CCLC is a nationwide child care provider dedicated to quality employer-sponsored early childhood education and care, employing nearly 3,000 hourly workers.
Honoring companies that believe in offering family-friendly programs like flextime, training and benefits to all employees, the Best Companies for Hourly Workers complements the renowned Best Companies recognition program, setting a new standard for best practices among companies whose workforce consists of more than 50 percent hourly workers.
"Providing meaningful and valuable benefits to our employees has always been a high priority for CCLC®," said Fran Durekas, Founder and Chief Development Officer for CCLC®. "Not only does it mean stability for our business, but it also means our employees know they are appreciated, valued and encouraged to thrive in both work and life. In addition to offering benefits, CCLC® was founded on the very belief that dignity, respect and an overall positive work environment leads to true success in the workplace."
"Particularly in this era of severe cost cutting measures, companies tend to overlook the long-term value of family-friendly benefits – but we find these programs increase productivity and decrease turnover at all job levels,” said Carol Evans, President, Working Mother Media. "Our Working Mother Best Companies for Hourly Workers are leading the way for innovative and responsible employee practices, and we urge others to follow their strong example."
For CCLC® and 100 percent of this year’s Best Companies for Hourly Workers winners, that example includes offering hourly workers competitive compensation and benefits such as health insurance and company-matching 401(k)s, as well as paid vacation and sick days, child care tuition assistance and flexible spending accounts. CCLC® is also committed to growing its employees and leaders, through professional development days, peer mentoring opportunities, and a tuition reimbursement program of up to $1,500 annually.
The winners are detailed in Working Mother’s May issue and at www.workingmother.com/bestcompanies.
Methodology:
Companies were selected for the 2010 Working Mother Best Companies for Hourly Workers based on an extensive application created in partnership with Corporate Voices for Working Families, a
Washington, DC-based nonprofit membership organization. It includes more than 450 questions on workforce; benefits; training, development and advancement programs; child care; flexibility programs; paid time off and more. It surveyed the availability and usage of programs, as well as the accountability of managers who oversee them, reflecting 2009 data. Private and public firms in any industry, with the exception of government agencies and firms in the business of providing work-life services, with at least 500 U.S. employees were invited to participate. To qualify, a company’s U.S. workforce must be comprised of at least 50 percent nonexempt employees.
The online application for the 2011 Working Mother Best Companies for Hourly Workers is available now at www.wmmsurveys.com and will go live in July 2010.
